The activity of Port 2000, the new port container harbour, started on hats wheel. Six months after commissioning in April, the first two berths operated by the General of handling port (GMP), subsidiary of Portsynergy a holding company jointly held by the French shipowner CMA CGM and the port operator P & O Ports, itself owned by the company of Dubai DP World have already reached their cruise plan. In the third week of October, their traffic has even exceeded the weekly theoretical capacity with nearly 17,000 containers handled. A "box" on four passing through Le Havre is now processed on Port 2000.
To "feed" the new equipment on which it has invested 100 million euros, the GMP changed a part of the traffic from its former Terminal, and then benefited from the contribution of new line CMA CGM as the French Asia Line 2, launched in July between the ports of the central China and Europe.

Satisfactory in terms volumes, the beginnings of the activity of the terminal are also on the technical level, with a speed of processing of containers in the order of 22 movements at the time by portico. This performance is still very far from what would be measure in China (more than 32), but is higher than that recorded on ancient havrais terminals (19). The objective is to reach 26 or 27. "We have a lot of reserves in productivity, provides Christian Pasquetta, CEO of GMP. Our ambition is to become a terminal of reference.
Side uniqueness of command between the (employees of GMP) dockers and crane operators (employees of the Autonomous Port of le Havre), the integration of the crane in the company, in a setting available for three years by the port, is rather well past. "The relationship is not complete, but the operator is no longer a stranger to the company, and the uniqueness of command exists indeed in everyday life", said the officer. His eyes, the system must continue to move forward in a dynamic similar to the one which allowed the integration of dockworkers in enterprises in the 1990s.
Huge investments
If the Port 2000 started well, the effect of this new equipment on the traffic of the port is on the other hand, to date, zero in appearance. For the first ten months, overall traffic is displayed even in slight decline compared to the same period of 2005, with 1.754.000 containers equivalent twenty feet, against 1.795.000 a year earlier. "Fault" is the old terminals that have registered an overall decrease of 15 of their activity. Those of the GMP have been logically from the transfer of large quantities to Port 2000. Terminals of Normandy (TN), the other great havrais stevedore, suffered a partial unavailability of the main lock of the Harbour, which prevented during nine months access for large container ships of MSC italo-suisse weapons. But, even in a configuration normal, these terminals have reached their limits and the growth of trafficking will later on Port 2000.
In this context, a new step should be taken as early as October 2007 with the commissioning of two new berths by AP Moeller Maersk. The investment of the Danish group, who partnered locally with TN to treat 630.000 containers year, will be, as for the GMP, at EUR 100 million. For its part, the CEO of CMA CGM, Jacques Saadé, claimed for 2010 three other berths, including two dug 15.50 m to receive his long container 400 m and a capacity of 11.400 "boxes" that he had just ordered. "The Harbour has become one of the main entrance doors of trade between Europe and Asia," provides the pattern of the third world armaments of containers.
To meet this demand and to those of other shipowners, the port authority will therefore accelerate the construction of other positions at Wharf before saturation of space. The Board of Directors of the Autonomous Port of le Havre (PAH) already stopped a program of 6 new posts for the container. These infrastructure works, which could be completed in May 2010, represent a total investment of EUR 315 million. "We now await the green light from the guardianship for work likely to start in summer 2007", said Jean-Marc Lacave, Director of PAH. Among these 6 new posts, 1 return AP Moeller Maersk, CMA CGM 2 and 3 to the MSC italo-suisse shipowner, who was not yet present on Port 2000. At the end of this program, it will more than 2 possible positions remain to build on Port 2000.
